Speaker 2:

Good day, Sunday listeners. I am your host, Dr. Sheree HSA Chevelle. Thank you for tuning in. I welcome you to episode zero. The introduction for this episode, I will spend the next several minutes describing who I am, what motivated creation of this podcast, and what will this podcast offer to you? The listening audience, my identity, I am a Christian single woman of African descent with a bachelor's in social work from Seton hall university, a master's in social work from records, the state university of New Jersey, new Brunswick campus, and a PhD in human services with a criminal justice specialization from Walden university. I'm a licensed master social worker in three states, have a certificate and forensic social work and hold the national credential human services board certified practitioner. I've been a social worker now for over 20 years spending a significant portion of that time in correctional settings and working with justice involved persons. Currently, I'm an assistant professor of practice for the school of social work at the university of Texas Arlington. I'm the co-founder and inaugural president for the central Texas association of black social workers and enter and share woman for the fatherhood coalition of McLennan county. You're in Texas social work and social work-related matters have been an, is a facet of my own life experience. And the earlier time of my life, two passionate and dedicated social workers made my life's journey. Their mission. These two amazing women believe that I was not my struggle. They dared me to tap into the seed of greatness within to pursue and maximize life being the woman I was created to be their active presence and influence gave birth to my own personal aspirations, to become a professional social worker. My personal journey is meaningful and useful to my own professional reality. Commonly those who pursue a career in social work do so because of either witnessing or experiencing a passionate social worker in action. And so witness and or experience a social worker in action at any early stage of life, culminating to the individual, becoming a social worker themselves is a story worth being told over the years, I have become intrigued by the personal stories of professional social workers as related to their journey to social work. And the stories of my students have become even the more fascinating as like my own, their story is meaningful and useful to their professional reality, considering my own personal story and stories from social workers and social work students, I was motivated to create this podcast, the profound influence of social workers in relationship to the continuity of the social work profession motivated me to create this podcast. I was driven by the idea of becoming an instrumental part of helping others share their personal life story. Now I love stories. I mean, I love love stories. As far as stories are everywhere and knowing the power of storytelling. I suggest that the personal stories of social workers, social work, students and others need that be hidden. Keep us grounded as human in the sight of others. Our stories represent who we are, where we have come, where we are presently and where we are going. Our inspired stories are a window into the breadth and depth of possibility held within humanity. And this too was my motivation to create this podcast. Sundays with Chevelle is a social work inspired cast, which means podcast episodes will not solely concentrate on delivering social work knowledge, exploring competencies or dissecting practice specific concerns.
